English for US University Applicants

Build the English you need to explain your ideas, prepare for the right tests and feel more ready for university study in the United States.

Different universities, different requirements

Start with each university’s own admissions page. Check its current English evidence, test policy, written tasks and deadlines; there is no single requirement for every US university. EducationUSA is a useful starting resource for understanding the application process.

  • Make a separate checklist for every institution
  • Distinguish English proficiency from other admissions tests
  • Confirm whether scores must be officially reported and by when

Write in your own voice

Bring a prompt and a draft you have written. Practise organising ideas, explaining an experience with specific details and revising unclear sentences. Feedback is there to help you express yourself; it should not replace your thinking or turn into someone writing the application for you.

  • Explain a genuine experience rather than inventing an impressive story
  • Use clear structure and concrete examples
  • Follow the university’s authorship and assistance rules

Prepare for the next stage of learning

University English is more than an application. Work on understanding a text, taking part in a discussion and explaining why evidence supports your view. Practise an interview only when it is relevant to the universities you have chosen.

  • Academic reading and discussion
  • TOEFL or IELTS preparation where appropriate
  • SAT Reading and Writing preparation where appropriate

Your questions, answered

Can I prepare from Armenia?

Yes. You can enquire about online lessons or in-person lessons in Yerevan. Share the universities you are considering, your level and deadlines.

Do all US universities require the same exam?

No. Check each institution’s current official requirements and test policy. We can discuss preparation once you have confirmed what is relevant to your applications.

Will you write my personal statement?

No. You write your own application. English lessons can help you develop writing skills and revise your own work within the institution’s rules.

Can I combine speaking and exam preparation?

Tell us which English skills and tests matter for your goals. We can discuss a plan that prioritises your needs and available time.
